Pre-development testing was carried out on 31 October 1998 in advance of house construction. The area is one of great archaeological wealth, with a large area denoted as an archaeological complex. There are no surface traces of any archaeological features at or close to the development site; the nearest known monument is a rath 200m to the south-south-east.
Seven trenches were excavated, but the soil quality in all was more or less the same and nothing of archaeological significance was encountered. Boulder clay was encountered no more than 0.6m beneath ground level.
