Five test-trenches were dug in advance of house construction in the townland of Glebe, Castlemore, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Rosmommon. (The castle and surrounding area were formerly in County Mayo.) The nearest trench came within 30m of the castle remains and bawn wall.
Material from the trenches showed the area to be one of eskerine gravel, covered by basically similar, loamy topsoil, 0.35–0.65m deep. The ground appears not to have been interfered with or disturbed. No artefacts were found.
