Trial-trenching was undertaken at a development site in Dunmadigan Td, Emyvale, Co. Monaghan, on 20 June 1998. The work was carried out in compliance with a request for further information from the planning authority in respect of a planning application for the construction of a dormer bungalow at the site. The site lies within the general vicinity of two ringforts, SMR 3:41 and 3:42, both of which are over 100m from the development site, and it had been recommended by the NMHPS that no archaeological involvement was required.
Six trenches were opened by mechanical excavator fitted with a ditching bucket. It was determined that the topsoil had a general average depth of 0.6m and that it directly overlay the natural sterile subsoil. No material of archaeological or historical interest or significance was uncovered.
