Archaeological assessment took place at Corkeeran, Co. Monaghan, in advance of the construction of a proposed dwelling-house. The site is near a ringfort. Three trenches were excavated, two north-east/ south-west and a third north-south.
Trenches 1 and 2 had 0.3–0.35m of topsoil and sod, after which boulder clay was exposed to a depth of 0.85m. Trench 3 was 15m long, 1.2m wide and was excavated to 0.9m deep. Sod and topsoil were 0.3m deep and at the south of the trench overlay a layer of dark brown soil, which contained fragments of red brick and rubble to a depth of 0.45m, after which boulder clay was encountered.
