The site was tested before construction of a large holiday complex. Eamonn Kelly found Iron Age burials in the area to the south of this site in the 1970s.
A total of 27 trenches were excavated over the area of the two fields comprising the development. Two of these produced human burials, while a third yielded evidence of a possible ditch. The burials were exposed underneath the ploughsoil, at the interface between the latter and the natural layers. Subsequently the site was excavated by James Eogan, who recovered Bronze Age and Iron Age burials and evidence of a Late Neolithic timber circle (see No. 503, Excavations 1998).
