Monitoring continued in relation to the scheme (see Excavations 1997, 136) in mid-October and early November. The work was confined to a c. 1.1km stretch of road running west from Carrownalurgan Bridge. All topsoil-stripping associated with the widening and realignment of the road was monitored. Groundworks along the southern side of the road were confined to a corridor 3–13m wide, and along the northern side a 4–17m-wide area. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered during the course of the work.
Further monitoring in respect of the scheme will be undertaken during 1999.
