Pre-development testing was carried out on a levelled enclosure to ascertain whether any subsurface features remained intact before the proposed construction of a dwelling-house. The enclosure had been extant until 1958, and based on cartographic evidence and topographical location it had been tentatively classified as a possible barrow.
The development site is rectangular in plan and covers 0.462ha. The archaeological site is contained within this, just east of centre. Vague traces of a shallow, curving depression were evident from east clockwise to south-east, which may have been the remains of a ditch. Other than this the area consisted of level grassland.
Four areas were tested. None of the areas examined revealed evidence of archaeological material. The shallow, curving depression noted before testing appeared to be a natural fall in the ground. Local information suggested that extensive reclamation and deep ploughing had previously occurred within this area.
