Plans to improve the nearby N2 road included realigning it through this site. Trial-trenching, carried out in 1996 by Martin Fitzpatrick, showed that bulldozing of the site in 1964 had removed all traces of the monument (Excavations 1996, 82, 96E0162). A request by the National Museum of Ireland was made for the hand-excavation of a 10m x 10m area in the centre of the site. This was carried out from 12 to 20 March 1998. No archaeological remains or strata were found.
