Archaeological assessment was carried out at Ramparts Road, Dundalk, Co. Louth, in advance of proposed Credit Union offices. Three trenches were excavated across the site.
All trenches revealed consistent stratigraphy: 0.4–0.42m of topsoil followed by 0.4m of brown loam containing 18th-century pottery, overlying a 0.3m-thick layer of gravel, followed by a sterile, brown, silty clay that continued to 2m below the top of the trench and was first encountered at 3.8m OD.
No datable finds were recovered, and the development proceeded without further archaeological investigation.
