An archaeological assessment of a proposed office building was carried out at Market Square, within the medieval town of Dundalk, Co. Louth. The site of the proposed development consisted of an overgrown open space at the street front measuring 15m east-west x 9m. It was proposed to construct a three-storey office building to occupy most of the site.
Two trenches were excavated on the site, and the natural boulder clay was exposed at a depth ranging from 1.1m to 1.6m. The ground above this consisted of a fill material containing red brick fragments and industrial waste pipes. No archaeological stratigraphy was exposed, and no features or finds were recovered from the trench.
