Testing took place at the site of the demolished public conveniences, Crowe Street and Demesne, Dundalk, Co. Louth, in advance of the proposed construction of new facilities.
Trench 1 was excavated at Crowe Street and was 2.5m long and 1m wide. Under concrete a layer of grey/brown, stony loam with red brick inclusions was encountered. The trench was dug to 1m, which was the required depth for the development.
Trench 2 was dug at Demesne, into a flowerbed. The topsoil was 0.3m deep and overlay a sand deposit 0.3m deep. This in turn overlay a grey/brown, sandy clay loam with inclusions of red brick.
