Archaeological assessment took place at Castlelumny, Dunleer, Co. Louth, in advance of a proposed residential development. The site lies close to the probable site of a castle first mentioned in 1301, on the south side of the 'castle field'.

Six trenches revealed orange boulder clay at between 0.26m and 0.44m from the surface underlying ploughsoil. No archaeological features or objects were found, and locals suggest that the castle site stood on the summit of the hill to the north.
