This work, commissioned by Limerick County Council, involved the investigation of a number of possible sites in advance of the Limerick Southern Ring Road.

The site was first noted during the course of fieldwork for the Archaeological Impact Assessment for the road by Celie O Rahilly, who recommended testing to establish the archaeological merit of the site.

The site consisted of a kidney-shaped depression measuring 20m north-south by 12m. It had gradually sloping sides. Along the south edge a mixture of earth and stone was exposed. A trench measuring 5m east-west by 1m was manually excavated to ascertain whether any enclosing element existed and whether any archaeological remains existed in the interior. The trench revealed boulder clay directly below topsoil. No features or artefacts of archaeological significance were encountered.
