Construction of a diversion channel and flood-relief works at Cappamore, carried out by the Engineering Section of the OPW, were monitored from July to September. No archaeological remains were encountered during the initial topsoil-stripping phase of the development. As part of this development entailed the widening and deepening of the Bilboa River, it was necessary to test all dredged material with a metal-detector. One artefact was recovered, an iron salmon spear of possible post-medieval date, although spears of this type have continued in use into this century.
