Ordnance Survey 6-inch maps of the Curragh record as pathways or access ways two linear features that are marked as ‘Site of Ancient Road (called the Race of the Black Pig)’. In February 1998, before the laying of gas pipelines, three cuttings were made along the line of this putative monument. No evidence of a pre-modern earthwork was found.
Editor’s note: This summary, though of work carried out during 1998, was received too late for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
