Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of a private house at Ballysax Road, Old Kilcullen, was carried out on 24 August 1998, in compliance with a condition within the grant of planning. The development site lies on the periphery of a large area of archaeological potential, while the hillfort of Dún Áillinne lies a short distance to the north-east. Stripping of topsoil for the house and driveway, as well as the excavation of three pits for the construction of the septic tank, had already been carried out without archaeological monitoring. The groundworks that were monitored consisted of the excavation of foundation trenches and the extension of one of the pits for the septic tank.
No archaeological finds or features were observed during the course of this monitoring.
