An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at a proposed development site at Old Kilcullen, Kilcullen, Co. Kildare, on 15 January 1998. The work was undertaken in compliance with a condition of the grant of planning in relation to the construction of a private dwelling with associated driveway and septic tank.
The site, which is roughly wedge-shaped in plan, lies south-south-west of Old Kilcullen ecclesiastical remains, on the western side of the Old Kilcullen–Halverstown road. Seven trenches were excavated by machine.
No features or structures of archaeological interest were uncovered during the course of the evaluation, and the only find of note was a single sherd of probable medieval pottery, recovered from the topsoil layer. Consequently, it was recommended that no further archaeological involvement was required at the site.
