Test-trenching was carried out at a site at Main Street, Leixlip, on 5 March 1998 in response to a planning condition for the construction of a small, two-storey block of apartments. The site consists of a plot of land, approximately 25m by 25m, to the rear of the street-frontage properties.
Three test-trenches were inserted to examine the stratigraphy near the greatest impact of the development. There was no evidence of surviving archaeological stratigraphy from any of the test-trenches, nor was there any evidence to indicate destroyed or disturbed archaeological remains. A sherd of medieval pottery and a sherd possibly of medieval lustre ware were found in the topsoil of Trench 3.
