Monitoring of Bord Gáis Éireann pipeline laying, within the zone of archaeological potential for Kildare town, commenced on 30 November 1998. This is scheduled to continue into 1999. At the time of writing, c. 500m of pipe had been laid, out of a total length of c. 2500m. This involved the mechanical excavation of trenches 0.4–0.45m wide and 0.7–1.1m deep. A combination of open and keyhole trenching with associated moling was used. At the time of writing no finds or features of archaeological significance had been uncovered.
