On behalf of Bord Gáis Éireann, and within the zone of archaeological potential recognised in the Urban Archaeological Survey for Kildare town, a gas pipe was laid in a trench in the roadway immediately west of the cemetery adjoining the White Carmelite Friary. The trench was 500mm wide and was mechanically excavated in the road to an average depth of 900–1000mm. No materials or structures of archaeological interest came to light in the course of this work.
