Archaeological trial-trenching was undertaken at a proposed dwelling-house site in the townland of Harristown, c. 8.5km south of Naas, on 10 October 1998. Harristown lies c. 3 miles east of Kilcullen, beside the River Liffey.
Six trenches, ranging from 38m to 110m long and c. 1.5m wide, were opened by mechanical excavator. They were not confined to the development area of the site, given that the entire plot lies within the defined area of archaeological potential. The topsoil, which was 285–390mm deep, overlay a layer of fissured rock and/or bedrock.
No features, structures or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered during the course of the archaeological testing.
