As previously reported (Excavations 1997, 92, 97E0418), inclement weather conditions caused the postponement of the completion of the required trenching for the Bord Gáis Éireann, Newbridge–Kildare Gas Feeder Pipeline until 1998. Work was resumed in late February 1998 on a stretch of pipeline trench extending from Herbert Lodge adjoining the Naas-Newbridge Bypass north-westwards to Collaghknock Glebe in the vicinity of Mountjoy Lodge, traversing terrain in the vicinity of three listed archaeological sites. The trench was routed a minimum distance of 15m from each site.

A second stretch of pipeline trench was mechanically excavated in late February to early March to extend a gas pipeline from its existing function near Ballymany Roundabout northwards to the Standhouse Hotel.

No material or features of archaeological interest came to light in the course of this work.
