Monitoring of Phase 2 of the Killarney Sewage Improvement Scheme was undertaken from October 1997 to May 1998. Groundworks involved the mechanical excavation of fifteen trenches in and around the vicinity of Killarney town. Despite extensive groundworks very few features or finds were recorded. This lack of archaeological evidence is because most of the trenches followed old, previously disturbed pipelines. Features that were exposed and investigated included a number of culverts, stone wall foundations, boulder sockets and a limekiln, all of which were subsequently found to be of relatively modern construction. No stray finds of archaeological significance were retrieved.
