DĂșchas The Heritage Service requested an archaeological assessment of the proposed development, as the site is within the zone of archaeological potential for Galway City. Neil O'Flanagan undertook a building survey with the production of scaled plans and elevations of any medieval fabric. Intrusive fieldwork took the form of four hand-excavated test-pits, along with the recording of seven previously machine-excavated engineering test-pits in the basement of the building.
Archaeological excavation and recording revealed an 18th/19th-century made ground layer sealing natural clays and sealed by a modern cement layer. One small pit was recorded in the west-facing section of Test-pit C, which lay in the middle of the site, although it failed to reveal any datable material. No further archaeological features or finds were recorded.
