This project involved the monitoring of ground disturbance associated with the development of a two-storey extension to the rear of the existing property at 47 Dominick Street Lower, Galway. The removal of a modern concrete surface revealed a brown, clayey silt, 0.2m deep. Underlying this was a dark, humic layer (1.3m deep) with occasional shells throughout. Extensive disturbance in the form of pipes and cables was evident throughout this layer. Eleven boreholes, for piling of foundations, were then drilled.
No artefacts or features of archaeological significance were encountered during the course of monitoring.
