Pre-development testing in the form of trial-trenches took place in advance of proposed development at Sites Nos 1 and 2, Drumacoo, Co. Galway. The proposed development was to be in the area where there were once the remains of two penitential stations, possibly associated with the early ecclesiastical remains at Drumacoo. These monuments were marked on the 1st edition of the OS map in 1838 and named as 'Station Monuments'.

In Site No. 1 two trenches were mechanically excavated in the area of the proposed development. The stratigraphy encountered revealed nothing of archaeological significance.

In Site No. 2 two trenches were mechanically excavated in the course of pre-development testing. In Trench A outcropping bedrock was found directly below the sod. It appeared that the natural rock was utilised to form a station monument.
