This work was undertaken on 7 December 1998. The proposed development involved the construction of a single serviced dwelling in the townland of Ballynabucky, Kilcolgan, Co. Galway. The site is in close proximity to a ringfort (SMR 103:18). Testing involved the mechanical excavation of four trenches, three on the site of the proposed dwelling-house and one on the proposed percolation area.

The trenches were excavated down to natural. All four had a similar stratigraphy, and all were archaeologically sterile. On the evidence of the trenches it appears that the proposed development posed no threat to the immediate archaeological environment.
