Monitoring took place near Dundrum Castle between 6 and 11 August 1998. The work was carried out as an extension to a licence held by James Eogan (Excavations 1997, 56) for test-trenching at Dundrum Castle House.

The area around the southern and eastern exterior of the castle was reduced to facilitate the construction of an access roadway. A stone drain of post-medieval date was uncovered at the southern side of the Castle during the mechanical excavation of the area. In addition a post-medieval stone wall was uncovered on the eastern side of the castle at a depth of 0.15m below the modern ground level

No medieval material was unearthed during the monitoring.
