Archaeological monitoring took place, in advance of the building of a commercial premises, on the site of a demolished building on the corner of Main Street and The Square, Lucan. Because the area was within a zone of archaeological potential there were several conditions attached to the planning permission issued by An Bord Pleanála.
The previous buildings had already been demolished before commencement of monitoring, and most of the floors had been removed. The sub-floor had been laid directly on a natural deposit of sand and gravel. This deposit was dug through to a depth of 3.4–3.5m below the modern floor level. No archaeological deposits, features or artefacts were found across the area of the development.
