Topographic and geophysical surveys covered two areas, one on either side of the south end of the Ballinteer Road, in advance of development associated with the South-Eastern Motorway. These identified a number of possible archaeological features, and eight trenches were excavated to assess their archaeological potential. The evidence from the test excavation showed that the areas in question had been cleared of topsoil and used as a dump for adjacent housing estates in the 1960s. The topsoil was subsequently replaced, and the fields were reinstated as grazing on the east side of the road and as a public amenity on the west side.
