Archaeological monitoring of a series of geotechnical boreholes was carried out on 9 and 10 November 1998. The boreholes were inserted at intervals into the footpath surrounding the Green to establish the nature of the ground profile before a planned project to upgrade and repave the footpath area. The boreholes ranged from 0.22m to 0.57m deep, with a circumference of 0.1m. The sample fill yielded by the bores consisted mainly of late material associated with groundworks over previous years.
