Test-trenches dug by mechanical excavator uncovered no deposits of archaeological interest. Deep red brick cellars occur along the North Brunswick frontage and also along most of the North King Street frontage available for testing. Elsewhere wall foundations of late 17th/18th-century date penetrate to a depth of between 0.6m and 1.8m below present ground level. A deposit of green soil, up to 0.4m deep, overlay subsoil in a limited area of the site.
The soil had no datable finds and was sterile. It may be subsoil disturbed from the construction of walls or may represent the former agricultural land and be of post-medieval date.
