Testing took place on 16 and 17 April 1998. Five trenches were machine-excavated, down to undisturbed natural where possible, without revealing anything of archaeological significance. At the extreme east end of the site, a subsurface layer of 0.3m-thick concrete was uncovered. This precluded close examination of the layers in this area; however, the evidence from the other trenches nearby strongly suggested that nothing of significance survived in this area.

The results suggest that beneath the present surface and associated hard-core post-medieval layers lie directly on natural riverine silts and clays. In the south-western corner over 2.5m of made ground lies directly on river gravels.

Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the assessment.
