An archaeological assessment, involving the mechanical excavation of four test-trenches, was undertaken in advance of development, which involved the construction of a three-storey building. This area began to develop with the building of Henrietta Street in the 18th century. The Linen Hall was built in 1716 in the immediate vicinity of Lurgan Street to accommodate the rapidly increasing linen trade. Part of the gateway survives at the entrance to the DIT Bolton Street School of Trades. As the street name implies, there was a close association with the linen trade in Ulster.
The four test-trenches revealed that cellars occurred over most of the site, and loose modern fill overlay natural deposits in all of the trenches. No archaeologically significant features or deposits were found.
