Testing was undertaken as part of planning permission on 14 July 1998. The standing buildings on the site were demolished, and it was apparent that deep cellars existed in the north-west corner and southern end of the site. Three trenches were dug. A localised area of post-medieval soil (0.6m deep) survived on site. The removal of this soil was monitored, and no features or artefacts of archaeological interest were noted.
