An archaeological site assessment was carried out at a development site at the corner of Green Street and Little Britain Street, Dublin 1, on 30 March 1998. The 'Green' of St Mary's Abbey (founded 1139) originally extended to incorporate the area where Green Street now lies, and the original name of the street, Abbey Green (1558), reflects this.
Three trenches were mechanically excavated throughout the narrow site area. Trenches A and B extended north-south, and Trench C east-west. The stratigraphical profile of the site was similar in all trenches. It consisted of deep building/cellar remains over a loose, pure gravel material. There was no evidence of any archaeological features or deposits.
