Pre-development archaeological assessments of the site were carried out in 1995 and 1997 (Excavations 1995, 19–20; Excavations 1997, 44), and the surviving archaeological deposits were excavated in 1997.
In November 1998 clearance of an area of the site at the rear (west end) of the property, which was not previously available for assessment, revealed an isolated human burial. This was excavated and removed. It is likely to have been of 16th- or 17th-century date.
