This assessment was carried out in August 1998. Eight trenches were opened by mechanical excavator in the open area to the rear of Nos 1–7 St Agnes Road. The site is adjacent to a medieval church, which sits within a round enclosure, suggesting that it could be of early medieval origin.

The assessment revealed a ditch outside and concentric to the boundary of the churchyard. No datable finds were recovered from it. Inside the ditch two pits containing burnt material were revealed. They are likely to be of medieval date.

Outside the ditch the trenching revealed the presence of poorly preserved medieval ridge and furrow cultivation. The furrows were spaced 2m or 4m apart, and their silty fills contained occasional sherds of locally made medieval pottery.
