In advance of construction of the Southern Cross Route Motorway testing was carried out on two features observed by aerial photography. A rectilinear mound, 27m x 25m, was tested under licence 98E0076. A circular mound, 10m in diameter, lay 60m to the south-east. This was tested under 98E0077.

Between 10 and 20 February trenches were dug in areas where the proposed motorway passed closest to the sites. Excavation showed that they had been largely destroyed by large-scale dumping from an adjoining housing estate. No archaeological features were discovered; however, fragments of a 13th-century belt-buckle were found in one trench near the rectilinear mound but were not associated with any feature.
