Testing took place on 26 March 1998. All but one of the eight trenches were machine-excavated down to undisturbed natural without revealing anything of archaeological significance.

In the southernmost trench an area of flagstone paving was uncovered directly beneath the sod. It ran approximately parallel to the line of the laneway that defines the southern boundary of the development area. No dating evidence was recovered; however, the close proximity of the early church of Kilbarron adds to its significance. It is recommended that further investigations take place in this area.

Apart from this confined area, nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered elsewhere during the assessment.
