Two pre-development test-pits were excavated, in compliance with planning conditions, on 18 August 1997. The site lies on the south island of the medieval walled city of Cork. The development area was excavated to a depth 1.7m (maximum depth of developmental intrusion). The only feature present was a cobbled surface, probably from 18th-century stables. The finds consisted of modern pottery, a hone stone and a small quantity of animal bones and oyster shells.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This excavation, though carried out during 1997, was not received in time for inclusion in the bulletin for that year.
