An 18th-century house on the site was considered structurally unsound, and permission was granted to demolish it. A photographic and descriptive record was made of the house in advance of its demolition. A site assessment, consisting of two test-trenches, was carried out on 24 May 1998. Both trenches were opened to a depth of 2.5m. Both were found to contain loose rubble fill. No finds or features of archaeological significance were noted.
