Pre-development rescue excavation was carried out, in compliance with planning conditions, between 13 and 16 September 1997. The site lies near the southern boundary of the medieval walled city of Cork. An area of c. 5.5m x 4.5m was excavated to a depth of c. 1m. The remains of two stone walls were uncovered between c. 0.75m and 0.9m below modern ground level. Both walls had been disturbed by previous industrial development on the site. The only finds uncovered consisted of fragments of pottery (chinaware, red-glazed earthenware and willow ware) and animal bones. The features were recorded, and development plans were modified to ensure that further disturbance would be avoided.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This excavation, though carried out during 1997, was not received in time for inclusion in the bulletin for that year.
