Site 1 at Drumbo was discovered during stripping of topsoil for the Cavan Bypass and consisted of a small spread of burnt stone and blackened earth to a maximum of 2.2m north-west/south-east by 0.3m north-east/south-west. This layer lay under 0.2m of light brown clay, which constituted the topsoil. The remainder of the mound appeared to have been truncated by recent machine activity, as was evident by piles of churned blackened earth and burnt stone. Even considering this, the mound does not appear to have been very large; no trough or underlying features were found. The site lies close to a stream.
A radiocarbon date of 2702±49 years BP (cal. BC 906–814) was obtained from charcoal from the mound.
