Two trenches were excavated by JCB with a 3ft toothless bucket in advance of the construction of an extension to the Bridge Tavern. It seems that until the present quay wall was constructed in the 18th century, this area was on the foreshore of the Leitrim River. No archaeological artefacts, features or structures were uncovered in the test-trenches.
A millstone was noted under the wall of a building on the adjoining property. It is recommended that this feature be protected so that it can be examined and recorded more completely in the future.
