The proposed development lay adjacent to the supposed site of a Franciscan house which it was attempted to establish in 1622 but about which we know nothing else. Eleven trenches were opened between 7 and 11 April 1997, using a JCB equipped with a toothless bucket. No features, deposits or finds of archaeological significance were uncovered.
