Three small test-pits were cut by hand through hard-core under a concrete floor, into a foundation for a 19th-century pillar, clay pits, and subsoil. Late 17th-century pottery was recovered from one of the pits. There was no indication of medieval buildings on site (20m back from the roadside of medieval Church Street) from the test-pits or from monitoring drain trenches. If any had existed they have almost certainly been shovelled away to open post-medieval clay pits.
