Four small test-pits were cut by hand on the site of recently demolished walls. The recently demolished building was erected over an 18th-century cobbled surface (Power’s Lane, an earlier and wider version of Dirty Lane). The building and the lane overlay a heavy cultivation soil over and infilling clay-extraction pits, with no indication of earlier buildings disturbed by cultivation or cut by pits. The lack of evidence for medieval buildings is clear and corresponds with results from a nearby trench (on Davitt’s Quay; see Excavations 1996, 110–11, 96E0174, 3m distant from one of the test-pits). The site is 12m from Main Street.
