Renovations at Ballynatray House, a listed building, were to involve a series of groundworks. Planning conditions require that these works be monitored by a licensed archaeologist.

The main works being monitored were: excavation for a new swimming pool, lowering of the floor in the fish house, and trenching for services (sewage, electric etc.). Monitoring of works in the house basement and the swimming pool excavations have been completed, and no remains of archaeological significance were uncovered—in both cases the only sediments encountered were natural subsoils.

Work on the fish house and services trenching are due to commence in March 1998.
