Limited trial-trenching in the backyard of the Derg Inn revealed c. 1m of archaeological deposits. The yard is enclosed on three sides by the bawn wall of Terryglass Castle, and the deposits presumably relate to the occupation of the castle, though no finds were made to date the lower part of the sequence. It was suggested that use of a raft foundation for the proposed extension would allow the deposits to be preserved in situ.
